Scottish Autism’s Right Click Programme – Women and Girls

Posted on January 25th, 2016

Following on from my recent trip to Falkirk mentioned in my previous post, I was invited by the wonderful Charlene Tait at Scottish Autism to contribute to the Right Click programme.  I agreed immediately.  I had already been impressed by the work Scottish Autism are doing and I was keen to be involved and also find out more about them.

For me personally there were a few challenges to face.  These will be addressed in a blog which will be coming soon!

My experience with Scottish Autism was superb.  I spent most of the day being interviewed by the lovely Catriona Stewart from SWAN.  This was filmed ready to go on the Scottish Autism website as part of the Right Click programme.  We discussed autism and pregnancy and motherhood.  It was an interesting piece of work and a pleasure to do.

I also had the pleasure of meeting the brilliant staff at Scottish Autism HQ and hearing about the services that they offer to parents, extended family members and the like who are touched by autism. I was also privileged to visit their Art Centre which was overwhelming for me.  The creative talent of the people who use the service was amazing.  Then I made a visit to the New Struan school and took part in the best assembly I have ever been to.  The support given to the young people there was excellent and individualised to take into account their own specific needs.  I could have stayed there all day.  In fact Scotland has stolen a piece of my heart and I left feeling thankful that Scottish Autism are doing the work that they are.

I hope that my small contribution will also be helpful to our daughters, sisters, nieces and their caregivers in the future.
